Are you unsure if your inefficient central air conditioner should be replaced or not? It is possible that you only need to get a few parts repaired to bring back good energy efficiency, but the first step would be to hire a contractor to inspect the system and pinpoint the problem areas. This article will go over a few of the possible problems that a contractor might find wrong with your central air conditioning system that is making it inefficient.

There Are Numerous Dirty System Parts

Dirty system parts can contribute to a central air conditioner becoming inefficient. One area of the system that a might be examined for dirt is the air ducts, as too much dirt interferes with air flow. A contractor will likely inspect the evaporator coil for dirt as well because it is one of the main parts used for cold air production. For instance, the evaporator coil must stay clean in order for warm air to get cold as it flows through. Other parts that might be inspected for dirt include

  • Air filter
  • Blower fan
  • Condenser coil

The Air Ducts Are Damaged

Central air conditioner inefficiency is often caused from the air ducts having cracks or holes in them. It is possible that all of the air from the blower is not making it through the air ducts because it leaks out. A contractor might be able to simply patch up holes or cracks, but it depends on how big they are. Loose fittings are another problem that can cause a leak in the air ducts. A contractor can tighten the fittings up if they are the problem, but it is possible that you need to get new ducts installed altogether.

A Weak Blower Fan is Unable to Deliver Air Efficiently

The blower fan is the part of a central air conditioning system that is used for producing air, so it must be in good shape at all times for efficient cooling. There are several things that can go wrong with a blower fan, including simply becoming old and rusty.  It is also possible for the fan to begin slowly spinning if dirt is weighing it down. The motor to the blower fan can also cause problems if it happens to burn out. All you have to do is contact an HVAC contractor and your central air conditioner can be inspected so the right repairs can be made.
